txt: Ben Eine - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eine is most notable for his alphabet lettering on shop shutters in London's Shoreditch, Brick Lane and Broadway Market areas. Some of these letters have been mapped for ease of finding.[3] He has also taken his lettering to the streets of Paris, Stockholm, Hastings and Newcastle upon Tyne. Prior to becoming involved in commercial graffiti, Eine was a very famous and highly credible writer in the underground London graffiti scene. [...] Eine first came to prominence in the "commercial" graffiti scene through his symbiotic partnership with London graffiti artist Banksy; through Eine, Banksy was able to access the underground scene and through Banksy Eine accessed the commercial world. Impressed by the work of Banksy Eine chose to focus on "commercial" graffiti.

INFART 2010 – HELLO NASTY! 3-4-5 September – Bassano del Grappa (VI) Italy Urban art, Music & Conference Festival

txt: Infart 2010 – hello nasty!

After the success of the previous editions Infart strikes back among the most important European Urban Art festivals. An invasion consisting of paintbrushes, spray cans, pictures, collages, stencils, sculptures and installations. During the opening day on September 3rd, together with the exhibition show taking place in the Castello degli Ezzelini, a video installation about the European and international Writing scene will be held through the use of rare archive images. This video installation is curated by Andrea Caputo, creator of All City Writers, a publishing project that recalls 30 years of this movement, starting from its origins in the Bronx of the 70’s NY until the explosion of the culture in Europe in the last two decades.

An art events movement run by a group of friends and collaborators representing different tribes in British society. MuTATE BRITAIN are The Mutoid Waste Company and The Cordy House Family. We work together to take art out of the gallery and into the city – where it reaches and entertains a much broader swathe of society. Our governing principle began with Joe Rush and the Mutoid Waste Company – we mix art into a bigger event and make sure everyone enjoys it.

In the first major public museum display of street art in London, an awesome line-up of acclaimed street artists will create gigantic new art works on the external walls of Tate Modern overlooking the Thames. An eclectic group of artists, who have worked in both street and gallery environments, are showing work: Blu from Bologna, Italy; the artist collective Faile from New York, USA; JR from Paris, France; Nunca and Os Gemeos, both from Sao Paulo, Brazil and Sixeart from Barcelona, Spain. This is the first time work has been commissioned for the building’s iconic external wall.
txt: Art World: Is street art losing its 'outsider' edge? - The Indipendent Blogs
So a screenprint poking fun at the art establishment is sold by the establishment. In fact, the establishment is now in on the joke. Does this mean urban art is losing its subversive edge? And is it even street art - accessible and (often) transient work created for the ordinary public - if it is connected to a gallery or established institution? [...] The question that some young artists may now be asking is, if street art is entering into the mainstream with urban artists increasingly becoming establishment figures, where do the real rebels go to rage against the machine?

Tate Modern is to get a summer facelift, with a group of the world's most acclaimed street artists being asked to produce work for the building's Thames-side facade, it was announced yesterday. It will be the first commission to use the facade and each artist will have an area of about 15x12 metres for the exhibition, entitled Street Art at Tate Modern. Cedar Lewisohn, the exhibition's curator, said he hoped the work, to be displayed between May and August, would open eyes to the variety of street art. "There is exciting stuff happening around the world and there is more to street art than just the household name or two we know in this country."

This is Banksys latest street work on the Essex Road, London N1. I filmed the spot for 1 hour on 6th March 2008. It was interesting to note the diverse cross section of the local community that were interested in his work. Unfortunately it is now covered with perspex to stop it being vandalised. See for yourself. Now covered up unfortunately.

The Diesel Wall Project is an opportunity for up-and-coming artists to have their work seen on a large scale by occupying one of four massive Diesel walls, housed in major cities around the world. This is a chance for aspiring artistic geniuses to be seen and enrich the lives of many with one simple or not so simple work of art. What are you waiting for? Well for starters, you're probably waiting for the contest to start accepting submissions on March 31st, but other than that we recommend you get to work and check out the Diesel Wall website for your chance to make your mark in Barcelona, Manchester, New York, or Zurich. From there, who knows the places you'll go?

Aren't street art auctions a bit lame? I don't agree with auction houses selling street art - its undemocratic, it glorifies greed and I never see any of the money. What's with all the gallery shows? None of the print and painting exhibitions in proper art galleries are anything to do with me, it's all stuff they bought previously. I only ever mount shows in warehouses or war zones or places full of live animals (I'm aware the pictures don't stand up on their own).

THERE's a world-class museum on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City that's free, that's open 24/7 and that shows the top artists in their field. It has hundreds of artworks, most of them huge: murals with allegorical tales of good and evil, modern takes on Rembrandt, variations on and homages to grunge comix and the golden age of Mad magazine. The art is constantly changing, the staff is paid nothing and anyone can show there. Almost every artist uses a nom de plume. The best view is from the elevated No. 7 train. It's not the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center but the blocklong establishment across the street -- 5 Pointz: The Institute of Higher Burnin'. 5 Pointz (the name signifies the five boroughs) is New York's hub for the high aerosol -- or spray-can -- art. The outside walls, the rooftops and especially the loading dock, not to mention the indoor halls and air shafts or the trucks parked outside, are its Technicolor showcase.
