:-( video: Carmelo Bene Futurismo: Contro la Venezia passatista - CinebrividoBalkan on youtube [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LaaphUwAJk]

53rd International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia June 7th - Sept. 30th, 2009 - Opening reception June 6th at 5 pm - Venue: Convento Ss. Cosma & Damiano, Campo S. Cosmo, Giudecca Palanca, 30133 Venezia www.palestinecoveniceb09.org Palestine c/o Venice marks the first Palestinian participation at the Venice Biennale. Rather than adopt one theme, the exhibition takes on a conceptual framework that embraces the Palestinian people questioning the disproportionate use of the media image of nameless faces and voiceless people.

[txt] The Skinny Recommends: International Art events 2009
Every other year Venice plays host to what is described by some cynics as the Euro Vision Art Contest, with artists representing their respective countries going head to head in an all-out 5 month long art battle. There are medals and everything. [...] I would advise making the trip to Venice this summer: stay in the cheap hostel on Guidecca, hang out in Campo Santa Margherita (the only place open after 10pm), and most importantly wear comfortable shoes - the taxis are even more expensive than in Edinburgh.

txt Yang Haegue to represent Korea in Venice - the korea herald
Installation artist Yang Haegue has been chosen to hold a solo presentation in the Korean Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale in Italy next year. [...] "I think the similarity between an artist and a philosopher is that they both try to realize something that already exists," said Yang. "I simply try to express them with my artistic words."

[txt] Krzysztof Wodiczko to Represent Poland at 2009 Venice Biennale - art.21.org
Krzysztof Wodiczko has been chosen to represent Poland in next year’s Venice Biennale, the 53rd International Art Exhibition. No stranger to the canals, Wodiczko also participated in the 42nd Venice Biennale in 1986, and in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2000. The Season 3 artist is known for his socio-political works employing large-scale public projections and interactive sculptures that expose societal injustices while seeking to empower marginalized communities.

[txt] Cale to represent art of Wales - www.guardian.co.uk
Cale said he was "surprised and honoured" to be invited to represent Wales. He added, intriguingly: "It offers an occasion to address certain pernicious issues in my background that had lain dormant for so long. There are certain experiences uniquely suited to the exorcism of mixed media and I am grateful for this opportunity to address them."
