Japanese avant-garde group. Gutai Bijutsu Kyokai (Gutai Art Association) was formed in 1954 in Osaka by Yoshihara Jiro, Kanayma Akira, Murakami Saburo, Shiraga Kazuo, and Shimamoto Shozo. The word has been translated into English as 'embodiment' or 'concrete'. Yoshihara was an older artist around whom the group coalesced and who financed it. In their early public exhibitions in 1955 and 1956 Gutai artists created a series of striking works anticipating later Happenings and Performance and Conceptual art.

In La Confirmación, Bestué / Vives invite the visitors to tour a film set with different scenes that only make sense when they watch a video at the end of the installation. Acciones en el Universo is also a journey, a tour through different rooms a arranged like a tunnel of horrors that is meant to disorient visitors and invite them to participate in the most ambitious project of all, to intervene in the Universe itself.

"Lapses" - Artists: Banu Cennetoglu, Ahmet Ogut - Curator: Basak Senova txt: Lapses - www.venicebiennial-turkey.org
In this context, "Lapses" consists of projects that demonstrate how the perception of "occurring events" can vary and lead to differing narrations of history because of lapses in collective memory - which is composed both by the media and by other surrounding environmental data.

KRISTINA NORMAN After-War Palazzo Malipiero, San Marco 3079, Venezia txt: "After-War" at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia - Center for Contemporary art Estonia
Using the concept of a memory community, Kristina Norman describes and analyses past events and proposes subsequent cultural practice. The title of the work "After-War" is a reference to the idea that the war is over, but the conflict still continues.

This acute sense of provisional belonging - being at home in what is foreign and feeling foreign in what is home - lends Yang's work a hair-trigger sensitivity for the inflections of quotidian experience as well as public and private territories.

      txt: Simone Berti - Untitled, 2000, photographs - manifesta 3 /Ljubljana, 2000
Already in his early works, namely video installations, Simone Berti called attention to the problem of the precariousness of the present moment. Berti once wrote that only in a given situation when everything becomes doubtful, could some level of certainty be achieved. He often imagines objects and situations which seem as if they were destined for failure from one moment to another, merely due to momentary nausea.

txt: Massimo Bartolini - Triple Loop - www.ikon-gallery.co.uk
Circles, spheres and circularity characterised this exhibition of new works by acclaimed Italian artist Massimo Bartolini. This installation was unsettling and conducive to reflection, familiar yet shot through with incongruity. Sphere closely resembled a court for the French game of boules. An area inside the vast industrial space of Ikon Eastside was prepared with soil and gravel, according to professional guidelines, and the boules, eight brass balls, were available for those wishing to play. A small wooden ball called ‘cochon’ is usually used but the artist substituted this with a walnut. Bartolini refers to the Zen-like nature of boules, the idea that it engenders a philosophical quiet.

txt: Rosa Barba - Western Round Table 2027
Rosa Barba is an artist who might work in a variety of media but whose work is invariably about one medium in particular: industrial cinema. [...] Western Round Table 2027. As such this work becomes an already-antiquated memorial sent back from a future without words, figured by the epochal past of the early twentieth century, of derelict (modernist) form.
