      Venice is a Collision Zone

Crisi o nuove prospettive? Venezia rimane zona di collisione. I walked a lot in Venice this summer: lot of photos, many interesting things. I visited many of the collateral events of the Biennale of Art. I discovered corners of this town I didn't know, and where you could enter only during the Biennale of Art. This Biennale (this Venice) leaves a sense of boundary, of limit, of uncertainty. And of emptiness. Closed borders, borders to be open, re-closing borders. Limits to pass, or already passed. Limits to be reviewed. Crisis or new opportunities? Venice remains a collision zone. txt: Gast Bouschet and Nadine Hilbert - Collision Zone - Louxembourg Pavilion
Europe’s fear of massive infiltration from without lies at the heart of Gast Bouschet & Nadine Hilbert’s Collision Zone, a haunted staging of image and sound recordings collected by the artists in the border regions of the Mediterranean. [...] Collision Zone fundamentally questions the notion of borders, following the observation that continents in general, and Africa in specific, are actually moving and constantly changing their respective positions. Overpowering natural and geological forces slowly but surely extend or shift the world’s physical and geographical boundaries. Gast Bouschet & Nadine Hilbert’s work thus draws its inspiration from a series of phenomena on the brink of the visible which appear to be regulating our world. By merging biological time and deep time, their installation creates a lapse of meditative time – a purposeful introspective slowdown interrupted by sporadic violent eruptions.

Shame on me: after skipping the opening of one of the greatest art events this planet has to offer, I had still not been to Venice for for the breathtakingly important 53rd edition of the Biennale d'Arte in early September. Since I skipped the fashion obligations that would have called me to New York and London, I mused that I could at least busy myself with some belated commitment to art. And off I went to la bella Venezia: one of the world's most beautiful cities and one where you run a 100 % chance of getting lost in some unpenetrable Calle, Sottoportego or Ramo when looking for forlorn art pavilion outside the Giardini. Months after the opening, I found myself rummaging through the remains of the Biennale, trotting lightyears behind the glamorously jet-setting international art élite

Got a little time to see Venice? Go to the Arsenale Novissimo. You'll find four very interesting collateral events (Unconditional Love, The Fear Society - Pabellón de la Urgencia, Rietveld Arsenale, ADACH Platform for Venice, Jan Fabre - From the Feet to the Brain), and a unique view of one of the most important shipyard in the world for centuries. What was the main industry of the past is becoming one of the most interesting places of the future of this town. img: ADACH pavillion in Venice Arsenale

[txt] Biennale Art 53rd International Art Exhibition Main outline of the 53rd International Art Exhibition
The President of the Venice Biennale, Paolo Baratta, along with the Director of the 53rd International Art Exhibition, Daniel Birnbaum, met today in Venice the representatives of the nations participating in the 53rd Exhibition, to be held between 7th June and 22nd November 2009 in the Giardini and Arsenale main venues (preview: 4th, 5th and 6th June), and elsewhere in Venice. The President sent special greetings to the countries participating for the first time: Andorra, Gabon, Montenegro, Pakistan, Principality of Monaco, South Africa, and United Arab Emirates; greetings were extended to those countries that will take part again in the next Exhibition: Iran, Morocco, New Zealand and San Marino. For this edition, too, there will be selected collateral events, organised by international institutions, which will hold their exhibitions at the same time as the Biennale. The catalogue will be published by Marsilio. The Director, Daniel Birnbaum, is working on the 53rd Exhibition with the help of an international group of experts: Jochen Volz (artistic organiser), Savita Apte, Tom Eccles, Hu Fang, and Maria Finders (correspondents).

[txt] Next year's Venice Biennale to break with tradition - Yahoo news Singapore (AFP Rome)
Next year's prestigious Venice Biennale art show will focus on the creative process, breaking with longstanding museum-style exhibitions, organisers said Friday. Titled "Constructing Worlds", the international show, to be held June 7 to November 22, 2009, will be "closer to the process of production and the venues of creation and training - the studio, the laboratory - than traditional museum-style exhibitions", said next year's curator Daniel Birnbaum.

[txt] Biennale Art 53rd International Art Exhibition - Making Worlds
On 31st October 2008, during the meeting of the representatives of the nations participating in the 53rd International Art Exhibition, the Director Daniel Birnbaum outlined the salient points of his exhibition and indicated its title: Making Worlds // Fare Mondi // Bantin Duniyan // 制造世界 // Weltenmachen // Construire des Mondes // Fazer Mundos… Birnbaum stressed that the exhibition will not be divided into sections but instead weave a few themes into an articulated whole, and he pointed out three aspects in particular: - the proximity to the processes of production, which “will result in an exhibition that remains closer to the sites of creation and education (the studio, the workshop) than the traditional museum show, which tends to highlight only the finished work itself. Some of the works - declared Birnbaum - will represent worlds in the making. A work of art is more than an object, more than a commodity. It represents a vision of the world, and if taken seriously it can be seen as a way of worldmaking”. -the relationship between some key artists and successive generations: “A number of historical reference points will anchor the exhibition. These artistic roots are still active, productive. They give energy to the branches of the tree of art, and perhaps also to that which emerges today, to the ‘sprouts’. I would like to explore strings of inspiration that involve several generations and to display the roots as well as the branches that grow into a future not yet defined”. - an exploration of drawing and painting, with respect to recent developments and the presence in the latest editions of the Biennale of many videos and installations: “the emphasis on the creative process and on things in the making will not exclude works in classical media”. The 53rd International Art Exhibition will take place in Venice from 7th June to 22nd November 2009.

Esco da arsenali tecnologici da insane, ipersoniche velocità: si allarga la laguna su Murano, mi ricolma d'aria fredda e di sole. Con il panino in bocca e sorridente prendo appena in tempo la quarantuno. ---------------------- [en] I get out from technological arsenals from insane, hypersonic speed: the lagoon enlarges on Murano, it fills me with cold air and sun.
