Probabilmente. Ma ormai era fatta: ancora fabbriche, ancora case, ancora negozi, ancora strade, ancora lavoro, ancora "schei". Chiese, no. Basta".

Cavernous old shipbuilding complex called the Arsenale (!)

[txt] Venice Architecture Biennale - The star system doesn't cast much light, but some national pavilions shine - www.latimes.com
Its biggest gestures - at the start of the exhibition, inside the cavernous old shipbuilding complex called the Arsenale - come from a parade of celebrity architects, including Zaha Hadid, Elizabeth Diller + Ricardo Scofidio and Frank Gehry, nearly all of them playing down to the moment with overscaled, underwhelming work. A separate section on experimental architecture, which Betsky prepared with a young Italian curator, Emiliano Gandolfi, has the opposite problem. It is dense and unwieldy, a thicket of projects containing a handful of stirring moments but no clear theme..

[txt] Letter From Venice Off-Season: Art between the Biennials - brooklynrail.org
However, this also happens to be a summer season when there is no biennial—at least, no biennial of contemporary art. The architectural biennial and the film fest—both under the aegis of the Biennale di Venezia—will make their quixotic appearances in September, when the weather has tempered a bit, including the lowering of heat, humidity, and chance of flash storms. With its aura of royalty and decadence, this is the place where art lovers love to be. In addition to the historical regalia, Venice—like most of Italy—is a great place for coffee.

txt: Venice cancels opening ceremony for hated Santiago Calatrava bridge - www.timesonline.co.uk
Massimo Cacciari, the centre-left mayor, said that it was "typical of this city to do itself down". The absence of facilities for the physically handicapped could be traced to the beginning of the project, when planners had assumed the disabled would use the existing ferryboat across the canal.
