txt: A short verse about cities - www.urban-art.info
I have never completely understood what the city is. It possesses an unusual naturalness. A naturalness beyond which I cannot see; it holds me as if I am imprisoned. The city does not only consist of spaces, buildings or streets. It seems to be broken down into wishes, longings and countless references. And often enough the spaces and buildings stand for exactly that: unfulfilled promises. The city is an instrument. It is a giant hostel in which I am but a nomad. The city is like a substitute for everything that I cannot have or be. It is like a stage, an eternally prolonged rehearsal for some postponed premiere. On other days it is the exact opposite and I can feel how those traces and wishes that I have left behind work and merge with others. The city is never silent. It is a place of ceaseless adjustment. And yet it also appears to be empty. It is nowhere and everywhere. It has no centre. The city is an organism without any geometry. It is dissolved in an indeterminate space. To be outside the city, always feels like the absence of the city.

      txt: Is Venice Sinking?
The net effect was like letting the air out of your tires, or perhaps more aptly, draining your waterbed. It wasn’t until the late 60’s that hydrologists put one and one together, slapped their foreheads, and sounded the alarm. The Italian government acted swiftly and banned groundwater pumping in the area forever. That did the trick and plugged the leak. Not only did the dramatic subsidence stop, but the area actually saw an upward “bounce” of a couple centimeters. Now the level of sinking is back to its normal “background”, non-crisis levels. But the damage has been done. As we’ll discuss in upcoming posts, losing those 10 precious centimeters was a huge strategic blow to Venice’s battle against the sea.

MoMA Doug Aitken: Sleepwalkers January 16–February 12, 2007 - Evenings, 5:00–10:00 P.M. Free Featuring Tilda Swinton, Donald Sutherland, Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Seu Jorge, and Ryan Donowho txt: MoMA Does a Drive-In - New York magazine
Aitken first had a vision of "skyscrapers communicating with each other" about their "inner lives" during a visit to midtown four years ago. (He lived in New York in the nineties, but calls L.A. home now.) After he brought Creative Time his initial idea in 2003, he and Peter Eleey returned with maps and binoculars, looking for an austere building façade to project on. As they walked down 54th Street, Aitken noticed a huge construction site. “I said, ‘Look at those white walls—that would be perfect for something,’ ” he recalls. “Peter looked at me like, ‘You idiot—that’s MoMA.

txt: Biennale Art 52nd International Art Exhibition
The 52nd Exhibition also features another new initiative emblematic of the spirit with which the Biennale relates to the international art world. During the course of 2006, the Organisational Division of the Biennale di Venezia initiated a forward-looking dialogue with Art 38 Basel, documenta 12, skulptur projekte münster 07 – which, as a result of a coincidence in scheduling which happens only once every ten years, hold their inaugurations in chronological succession in June 2007 – to create a partnership that finally makes it possible to compare their respective organisational methods and to undertake joint promotional actions in areas of the world (for example the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America) in search of new audiences.

      txt: The Matrix
Neo: This isn't real... Morpheus: What is "real"? How do you define "real"? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then "real" is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain... [Turns on TV] This is the world that you know. The world as it was at the end of the 20th century. It exists now only as part of a neural interactive simulation that we call "The Matrix." You've been living in a dream world, Neo. [TV switches to desolate world] This is the world as it exists today...

txt: ArtCal Zine - Armory Show Week 2008 Coverage
Like any art fair, is it a process of finding diamonds in the rough. In this case, some paintings were literally as sharp as diamonds while others were just rough.
txt: Boring Art Makes a Come Back at the Armory
With even more boring art than usual hanging on fair walls, even those who typically enjoy The Armory Show are likely to find it stale this year. Flowing money may inspire ill considered risk taking, but at least there’s some energy to it. Catering to this year’s more considered collector, galleries bring their safest fan fare; lifeless corporate art variations now stretch across the pier as far the eye can see. Sikkema Jenkins, Lehmann Maupin, and Sean Kelly, was a particularly bad area of real estate, each featuring more than their fare share of mediocre art in expensive frames.

      text: wikipedia - easter egg
A virtual Easter egg is an intentional hidden message or feature in an object such as a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program, or video game. The term draws a parallel with the custom of the Easter egg hunt observed in many western nations. This practice is analogous to hidden signature motifs such as Diego Rivera including himself in his murals or Alfred Hitchcock's legendary cameo appearances. An early example of these kind of "Easter eggs" is Al Hirschfeld's "Nina". Atari's Adventure, released in 1979, contained what is thought to be the first video game "Easter egg": the name of the programmer (Warren Robinett). In computer programming, the underlying motivation is often to put an individual, almost artistic touch on an intellectual product which is by its nature standardised and functional.
video: Happy Tree Friends - Toothy's Easter Smoochie [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP8avO4rlMQ] think: Inner peace - wikipedia
peace of mind refers to a state of being mentally or spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress. Being "at peace" is considered by many to be healthy (homeostasis) and the opposite of being stressed or anxious. Peace of mind is generally associated with bliss and happiness. Peace of mind, serenity, and calmness are descriptions of a disposition free from the effects of stress. In some cultures, inner peace is considered a state of consciousness or enlightenment that may be cultivated by various forms of training, such as prayer, meditation, T'ai Chi Ch'uan or yoga, for example. Many spiritual practices refer to this peace as an experience of knowing oneself. Finding inner peace is often associated with traditions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, emphasizes the importance of inner peace in the world: "The question of real, lasting world peace concerns human beings, so basic human feelings are also at its roots. Through inner peace, genuine world peace can be achieved. In this the importance of individual responsibility is quite clear; an atmosphere of peace must first be created within ourselves, then gradually expanded to include our families, our communities, and ultimately the whole planet.
