The artist Ragnar Kjartansson has been chosen to exhibit on Iceland’s behalf at the 53rd Biennale in Venice 2009. [txt] Tao Te Ching - chapter 8 - source www.Taoism.net and Tao Te Ching: Annotated and Explained, published by SkyLight Paths in 2006.
The highest goodness resembles water: Water greatly benefits myriad things without contention, It stays in places that people dislike, Therefore it is similar to the Tao: Dwelling with the right location, Feeling with great depth, Giving with great kindness, Speaking with great integrity, Governing with great administration, Handling with great capability, Moving with great timing. Because it does not contend It is therefore beyond reproach

[txt] Cale to represent art of Wales - www.guardian.co.uk
Cale said he was "surprised and honoured" to be invited to represent Wales. He added, intriguingly: "It offers an occasion to address certain pernicious issues in my background that had lain dormant for so long. There are certain experiences uniquely suited to the exorcism of mixed media and I am grateful for this opportunity to address them."

[txt] 'Moses project' to secure future of Venice - telegraph.co.uk
It sounds like something only a Bond villain could dream up: a fiendishly clever but astronomically expensive project to turn back the tide with giant steel gates bolted to the sea floor. [...] Art and architecture remained intact after Monday's floods, the fourth most severe rise in water levels since records began in 1872, but Venetians were split over whether the Moses scheme could have prevented the "deluge".

Every year street artists from around the world get to a village near the mountains and 85 km from Venice, Sarmede, for the Fiere del Teatro. This year a guy and a lass from Tokyo expanded on the square an unexpected warm with their kindness, grace and irony, although they were bravely performing with 3° Celsius. Bravo! [txt] SIVOUPLAIT - introduction
Created by Nozomi Horie and Takeshi Shibasaki, “SIVOUPLAIT” has begun expanding their realm outside of the theatre to street performances in Tokyo, as they continue their outstanding shows on stage.

[txt] Text is free, we make our money on volume(s) - ft.com
Second, even professional authors make money in multiple ways other than by royalties - ranging from options on film production to commissions for magazine articles to consulting, teaching and speaker fees. Most are aided by wider exposure. As Doctorow says, “my biggest fear as an author isn’t illicit copying, it is obscurity.”

[txt] New Sirens tell the Acqua Alta Story - livingveniceblog.com
I live on the first floor…thank heaven, because when I went down to check, the water was already at the height of the realzata portion of the entrata. By 9:00, it was four inches above it. At 10:15, there is a boat in the calle and bags of garbage that couldn’t get picked up bobbing toward the fondamenta. I am grateful I don’t have to go out this morning, and feel for the folks with two young children on the ground level below who, although they’ve installed the barriera at their door, have been hauling stuff off the floor since the wee hours just in case.

      [txt] urbangrassroots.net - concept
Street Art is not static. The natural living space of street art is not the gallery but public urban space! The project “Planet Prozess” will be a beacon for Street Art. It aims to create a dialogue to facilitate the understanding of this manifold form of expression. The participating artists place a special emphasis on the conjunction of internal and external space. The exibition will be a dynamic process whereby the Artists develop their work over the three weeks. For one month the former Senatsreservenspeicher, situated at the Spree, will become the nerve center connecting all artistic processes. “Planet Prozess” invites the public to join the creation-process every day of the exhibition; to meet the artists and to discover the variety of urban creation and communication. Participating and observing, the public can experience the diversity of street writing, graffiti or other forms of urban expression. After 21 days the creative process comes to an end. We are going to celebrate the results with a Block Party and a second Opening. The works will be on show for another ten days. The internationally renowned artists, from train-writer to fine artist, reflect their national and cultural context in their work.

[txt] About Arts Towada - www.city.towada.lg.jp
Due to recent move-outs and downsizing of government offices, Kanchogaidori, the central avenue of the city which literally means "government office street," has noticeably become desolate despite its name. In an effort to revive the street, Towada City has begun the Arts Towada Project, for the improvement of the cityscape and future town planning. In this project, an outdoor space, namely Kanchogaidori, is transformed into a museum, with a variety of artworks all along the street. Such a project is very unique and rare, even when considered on a global scale. Furthermore, with the harmony of the artworks and Towada's beautiful nature and rich history, as well as the local vitality, Towada aims to be recognized as "City of Arts" and "City of Inspiration and Creation."
